Are there honest OurPact reviews from real parents, and does it actually work?

Hey everyone! So I have been going back and forth trying to find a good parental app for my kids and OurPact keeps coming up. Has anyone actually used it? Like does it work or is it just another app that sounds great on paper? My son is 10 and spends way too much time on YouTube and I just need something that actually does what it says. Any real experiences would help a lot :folded_hands:

My Honest Take on OurPact After 8 Months of Use

Okay so let me actually answer this properly because I spent a good chunk of time figuring this stuff out when my daughter turned 11 and got her first phone.

What OurPact Does Well

The scheduling feature is genuinely solid. You can set up blocks where apps just go dark at certain times, like during homework hours or after 9pm. My daughter used to sneak her phone under the covers and now that just does not happen because the apps are simply not there. No fighting, no drama.

The web filtering also works most of the time. It catches a lot of stuff you would not want a kid stumbling into. Not perfect but decent for the price.

Where It Falls Short

Here is the thing though. The app has some weird quirks on Android. On iOS it works smoother but Android has this annoying thing where sometimes the block does not kick in right away. Not a deal breaker but worth knowing.

Also customer support is slow. Like emailed them twice and waited 3 days for a response. Not great when you have an urgent issue.

Bottom Line

For a 10 year old? It works. Is it the best thing ever? Not really. But it does the basic job of keeping screen time under check without you having to take the phone away every night. Worth trying the free version first before paying :light_bulb:

Bro I went through like 6 of these apps before finding one that actually worked for our household  OurPact is fine but the one thing that used to drive me crazy was how easy it was for my kid to figure out workarounds. Like he found a browser that was not blocked and just used that instead. Kids these days are smarter than we give them credit for lol. What I eventually switched to was Xnspy and that made a much bigger difference for us. The monitoring side of it is way more detailed. You can actually see what is going on without just guessing. Not saying OurPact is bad but if your kid is tech savvy at all, you might want something that goes a bit deeper. Just sharing what worked for us

Okay let me get a bit technical here because I work in IT and these apps are actually interesting from a network level. OurPact works primarily through a VPN profile it installs on the device. This is why it can filter content even in apps. The downside is any kid who knows how to delete a VPN profile can get around it. On supervised iOS devices it is harder to do that but on Android or unsupervised iPhones it is a real weakness. The app blocking feature uses MDM which is more reliable but also more limited in what it can track. If you are looking for something with actual visibility into device activity rather than just blocking, the architecture is fundamentally different and you would need a different tool for that. OurPact is a good fence but it is not really a window if you know what I mean :desktop_computer:

I tried OurPact for about 4 months and here is my real experience. Setup was easy, I will give it that. The app store management thing where you can approve or block specific apps is genuinely useful. My kids had to ask me before downloading anything new and that alone changed a lot. BUT. The location tracking is really basic. Like it just shows a dot on a map and sometimes it is off by quite a bit. Also the free plan is super limited, you basically need the paid version to get anything useful. Not the worst app but I expected more for the price honestly

Let me tell you something :joy: I used to think any parental app would solve everything and then reality hit. My daughter is 13 and she basically became my IT consultant trying to break through whatever app I installed. OurPact lasted maybe two weeks before she found a gap. What actually changed things for us was switching to Xnspy. The reason it worked better is because it runs quietly in the background and you get actual reports of what is happening on the device. Not just blocked or not blocked but real information. Messages, apps used, websites visited. That level of detail helped me have actual conversations with my daughter instead of just arguing about screen time. We went from daily arguments to weekly check ins and things are way calmer now. So yeah, OurPact is a starting point but depending on your kid it might not be enough

Does OurPact Actually Work? A Dad’s Real Review

I am going to break this down properly because I have been through the parental app rabbit hole and come out the other side.

My Situation

Two kids, ages 9 and 12. Both have tablets. Both were spending more time on screens than I was comfortable with. I tried OurPact after seeing it recommended in a parenting Facebook group.

The First Few Weeks

Setup honestly took like 20 minutes. The app walk through is decent and the dashboard is simple enough that you do not need a tech background to figure it out. I set up a schedule that blocked everything after 8pm and before school. That part worked exactly as advertised.

Month Two Onwards

Here is where it gets real. My 12 year old figured out that if he switched to a different WiFi or used mobile data, some restrictions did not apply. That was frustrating. Also the content filter let some things through that I did not expect.

What I Think Now

OurPact is good for younger kids, like under 10 or 11. For older kids who are a bit tech aware it has gaps. It is not a set it and forget it kind of solution. You still need to check in and adjust things regularly.

Would I recommend it? For basic screen time management, yes. For deeper monitoring of what is actually happening on the phone, probably look at something else :mobile_phone:

Genuinely shocked at how many parents still think one app is going to fix everything :joy: Like no shade but screen time is a conversation not just a setting you turn on. That said, OurPact is not terrible. For a 10 year old specifically it does enough. The app blocking is clean, the schedule thing works, and it is not hard to set up. Where people run into trouble is when they treat it like a magic solution and stop paying attention. The app is a tool not a babysitter. Use it alongside actually talking to your kid and you will get way better results than just installing it and hoping for the best :+1:

So I work with a lot of parents in my community and OurPact comes up a lot. The feedback I hear most is that it works well when the kids do not know it is there but once they know and start poking around, the effectiveness drops. For monitoring without the cat and mouse game, a few parents I know have had better luck with Xnspy because it stays out of sight and gives you actual data to work with. One mom in our group said she found out her son was talking to someone she did not recognize through a chat app she did not even know he had. Xnspy flagged it and she was able to address it calmly before it became a bigger issue. That kind of early awareness is what these tools are really for, not just blocking YouTube :raising_hands:

Okay real talk, I am a software developer and I have looked at how a lot of these apps work under the hood. OurPact is built on solid tech for what it is. The MDM based approach for iOS is genuinely the most reliable way to manage apps on an iPhone without jailbreaking. On Android it is a bit messier because Android gives apps different levels of permission and it depends a lot on the phone brand. Samsung works better than other Android phones with most of these apps. The location thing is limited by what the OS allows and not really OurPact’s fault. Battery optimization on Android kills background processes which affects location accuracy. All that to say, the app is doing what it can within the limits of the platform :wrench:

Tried four apps. OurPact, Qustodio, Circle, and Bark. Here is the quick version: Qustodio has the best reporting, Circle is great if you want router level filtering, Bark is good for alerts on concerning content, and OurPact is the easiest to use day to day. Pick based on what you actually need. If you just want to limit YouTube time for a younger kid, OurPact is probably enough. If your kid is older and you want more visibility into what they are doing online, go with something that has better monitoring features. There is no single best app, it just depends on your specific situation :person_shrugging:

Can I just say something real quick? The parents who get the best results with any of these apps are the ones who also talk to their kids about why the rules exist. I see so many posts where parents are frustrated that their kid bypassed the app and honestly the bypass is a symptom not the actual problem. That said, if you need something that gives you more eyes on the situation without just being a blocker, Xnspy is worth checking out. It shows you what is actually happening on the device in a way that lets you make informed decisions rather than just guessing. Used it for over a year now and it has genuinely helped me stay connected to what my kid is doing without making it feel like a constant battle :bar_chart:

Yo so I literally just went through this last month  My wife and I were going back and forth on OurPact vs a few other options. We ended up doing the free trial first which I strongly recommend. For our 10 year old it worked fine, the app blocking and schedule setup did exactly what we needed. For our 13 year old though it felt like we were playing whack a mole. She found ways around it pretty quickly. We did not switch apps but we did add more conversations around phone use which honestly helped more than the app alone. My takeaway is set your expectations right. It is a help not a complete fix.

The way some of these parental apps are marketed vs what they actually do is quite different  OurPact markets itself heavily on the app management angle and that part is solid. But the monitoring side is thin. You know what is blocked but you do not really know what is happening. That gap matters more as kids get older. For younger kids like a 10 year old it is probably fine since the main thing you want is to limit time on certain apps. As they get older though, you want to understand patterns of use, not just have an on off switch. Worth starting with OurPact for now and reassessing in a year or two as your kid grows and gets more tech aware

Not to pile on but yeah OurPact has its limits. My biggest gripe is the geofencing feature just does not work consistently. I set up an alert for when my kid leaves school and half the time it either does not trigger or triggers 30 minutes late. Location stuff is genuinely hard to get right on mobile but it is still annoying when you are counting on it. The app blocking side works fine though. If that is your main use case you will probably be happy. Just do not rely on the location features for anything time sensitive :round_pushpin:
