I have some major concerns about growing TikTok interest in my teenage daughter. She wants to make an account, but I know it’s not safe for kids. Are there any alternatives? Is there a way to monitor TikTok activity?
Good question. Protecting kids from explicit content has become really hard with these fast-growing apps. I’d suggest going for YouTube Shorts, it’s similar to TikTok but safer.
Other than that, you can install the Zigazoo app, which is just like TikTok but has age restrictions. You won’t find kid-friendly TikTok because that doesn’t exist.
Honestly, I tried switching my kid to these apps, but they still managed to access TikTok somehow. You can’t completely hide the app from them; one way or another, they are gonna be on that app. So the best way to tackle this situation is to set preventive measures, like parental monitoring tools, so you can supervise them from a distance.
I have been using Xnspy, the app does a great job at monitoring in stealth mode, and gives all the insights into their social interactions.

Just out of curiosity, are you looking for a specific solution or just want TikTok alternatives? ![]()
This is a common concern among parents. Just like @Vexonova, there are hardly any alternatives, but you can opt for other apps that are kid-friendly. Other than that, TikTok does offer a “Younger User” mode, but TikTok doesn’t offer a standalone kid app like YouTube Kids.
However, when someone enters a birthdate under 13 in the main TikTok app, the experience changes:
- No uploading
- No direct messages
- Content filtered for age-appropriateness
- No search bar (in some regions)
This is TikTok’s built-in younger user experience, but it still runs inside the main TikTok app. So it’s not a proper solution, but at least you can be sure your kid won’t be exposed to any explicit content or trends.
But it’s important to understand that this kid-friendly mode is based only on the birthdate entered; it isn’t verified independently, so kids can bypass it by entering a fake date.
You can handle this situation by simply getting Xnspy, which will do all the work for you. From social media monitoring to blocking app access, the app offers everything you need for monitoring your child’s social interaction. Some of the key aspects are:
- IM Chat Monitoring
- Keylogger
- Screen Recorder
- Keyword Alerts
- Remote Commands
You can check out their website to get proper information. This fortunately worked for me. Let’s hope it works for you as well.
Good suggestion of Xnspy @Auralyte, but TikTok also offers some of the parental monitoring features, which are really helpful in tracking a child’s TikTok activity.
Even without a separate kids app, TikTok offers tools to make it safer for teens (and younger kids if allowed by parents):
Family Pairing
Parents can link their TikTok account with their child’s to manage settings like:
Screen time limits
- Restricted Mode (filters inappropriate content)
- Who can message or interact
- Setting the child’s account to private
These controls help shape a safer environment on the main app.
Digital Well-Being Features
- Default private accounts for 13–15 year olds
- Disabled direct messaging for under 16s
- Screen time guidance tools
These are designed to reduce the risks of overuse and exposure.
You can use these tools to supervise their TikTok accounts even if they make one. Combined with Xnspy, as an extra layer of protection, you can actually live peacefully.
