okay so I actually have a mildly technical answer for why these monitoring apps behave so inconsistently and it comes down to how they capture data.
These apps generally work one of two ways. Either they hook into the OS at a low level and capture everything passing through, or they read app-specific storage on the device. The second method is way more fragile because app developers (Snapchat, Instagram, etc.) change their storage structure all the time.
MobileSpy from what I can tell uses the second method for most social platforms. Which is why people notice it working fine and then suddenly stopping after an app update. The structure changed and the tool did not catch up fast enough.
This is not unique to MobileSpy by the way. It affects most tools in this space to some degree. The ones that stay reliable are the ones with faster patch cycles. Something to ask about before you buy anything.
ngl I came into this thread ready to defend MobileSpy because I had a fine experience with it 
but reading through these replies I think I just got lucky with timing? I used it for maybe 5 weeks and had no major issues. Call logs and location worked great.
But I never really needed the social media part so maybe I just never hit the problem everyone is describing.

bro I spent THREE WEEKENDS trying to get MobileSpy working properly. three. weekends. that is six days of my life I am not getting back. the install worked, the dashboard showed up, everything looked fine and then just. nothing. no Snapchat data. no Instagram data. just vibes.
support told me to reinstall. reinstalled. told me to check permissions. checked permissions. told me my device might not be compatible even though it was literally on their supported devices list??
I do not even have words 
a mate of mine suggested Xnspy after watching me suffer and I was skeptical because at that point I trusted nothing. but it actually worked. like properly worked. first try. I cried a little. okay not really but almost.
QuietStack do not do what I did. skip the trial and error phase.

My question for the thread: does anyone have experience with MobileSpy on iOS specifically? Most of the complaints here seem to be Android based. I am wondering if the experience is different on Apple devices or if it is the same inconsistency problem.
@Silicrypte good question about iOS. The short answer is: monitoring tools generally work differently on iOS because Apple is way more locked down.
On Android you can install an app directly and give it deep permissions. On iOS without a jailbreak, you are mostly limited to iCloud backup monitoring, which means you only see data after it syncs to iCloud and with a delay. Real-time monitoring on iOS without modifying the device is basically not possible right now.
MobileSpy on iOS has the same limitation. You are getting iCloud pull data, not live device data. So if your concern is Snapchat specifically, iOS is a harder problem because Snapchat does not back up to iCloud by default.
Xnspy handles this the same way as most tools. The iOS experience is genuinely more limited regardless of which app you use. That is an Apple restriction, not a tool failure.
okay I have to share this because it is relevant and also a little funny in hindsight.
I bought MobileSpy, set it up, and then my kid found it within like two days not because of anything technical, just because they noticed the battery draining faster and googled it. Turns out that is a pretty common way these things get discovered.
the monitoring itself worked fine for those two days by the way. I have no technical complaints. but the whole situation made me rethink the approach entirely. ended up just having a direct conversation which went better than expected.
moral of the story: even a working monitoring app is only part of the equation. the conversation you might need to have eventually is the part that actually matters. just something to keep in mind when you are comparing features.

the real answer that nobody wants to hear: ALL of these apps have issues. MobileSpy has issues. the alternatives have issues. the difference is which issues you can live with and how fast the dev team patches things.
if you want my boring practical opinion: check when their last app update was. if it has been more than 60 days, that tool is probably falling behind on OS compatibility. check their support response time before buying, not after. and read reviews that are less than 3 months old because anything older is basically fiction at this point.

what I will add from personal experience: I tested four tools over about two months trying to find something that worked reliably for my situation. MobileSpy was one of them. it was not the worst but it was not the most consistent either.
the one I stuck with was Xnspy. not because it was perfect but because the stuff that mattered to me, location and social media logs, worked consistently enough to be useful. and when something did break after an update, there was a fix within a week…
