So I have been using Turbospy for a while but honestly the app has been acting up lately. I need something reliable for keeping tabs on my kids when they are out. What are you all using these days?
Ok so I went through this exact same rabbit hole about 4 months ago when Turbospy started glitching on me mid-trip

The thing people miss is that location accuracy depends heavily on whether the app is using GPS, cell tower triangulation, or WiFi positioning. Turbospy switched to a hybrid method somewhere around v3.x and that is exactly when everyone started complaining about delayed updates.
If you want consistent real-time data, you need an app that defaults to GPS and only falls back to cell/WiFi when GPS is unavailable. mSpy does this correctly. Most budget alternatives do not.
Also — and this is a real thing — apps that get flagged as battery drains by Android will get killed by the system. Check if the app has a persistent notification. If it does not, your phone will probably close it at 3am and you will wake up to a 9-hour location gap. Been there.

Some of the more popular free tracking apps make their money by selling aggregate location data to advertisers. Your kid’s daily route from school to home is technically in there.
Paid apps like mSpy, Xnspy, and FamiSafe have clearer data policies because their revenue model does not depend on selling your info. That is worth something beyond just the feature set.

I would have lost my mind.
For regular family tracking I have been on FamiSafe for about a year now and it has been pretty low maintenance. My main thing was I wanted to see location and have the option to set geofence alerts like get a notification when my daughter leaves school grounds. FamiSafe does that well.
The app does run a bit heavier on battery than I would like but on a newer phone it is not really a daily annoyance. On older phones it can get noticeable.
iSharing is also worth mentioning if you want something lighter. No frills but it tracks reliably. I used it before FamiSafe and had zero issues, just outgrew it when I needed the extra features.
ok real talk… Turbospy had ONE job
Like it is a tracking app. The entire function is tell me where this phone is. And somehow it still manages to show you location data from two hours ago like that is useful information. Oh cool my kid was at the mall at 2pm, it is now 4pm and she could be literally anywhere.
Anyway. Xnspy. That is my answer. Location updates are actually current, the app does not throw a tantrum when the phone restarts, and the interface does not look like it was designed in 2013. I know I sound like an ad but I was genuinely annoyed enough at Turbospy that anything working normally feels like a miracle at this point lol
Seriously though, setup takes maybe 15 minutes and after that you basically forget it is there. That is how it should work 
A few things nobody mentions when comparing these apps:

iPhone vs Android matters a lot. Most tracking apps work better on Android because iOS has tighter background restrictions. If you are tracking an iPhone, you need something with iCloud sync as a backup method.

The free trials are usually limited. You often get location but not history or alerts. Run the trial on your own device first so you know what you are actually getting.

Customer support quality is huge. When the app stops working at 11pm on a Friday you want someone to respond. mSpy and a few others have 24/7 chat. A lot of smaller apps do not.
For what it is worth, after testing four options this year, mSpy and Xnspy were the two that passed all my checks. Both worth trying depending on your budget 
Here’s one thing that helped me decide.
I asked each company a support question before buying, just something basic about compatibility. The ones that answered within a few hours and gave an actual answer got shortlisted. The ones that sent me a generic help article link got removed from my list immediately.
Bottom line for @BreathView do not overthink it. Pick mSpy or FamiSafe if you want something mainstream with lots of community support. Pick Xnspy if you want something that runs quieter and does not need constant checking. Either way you will be miles ahead of where Turbospy left you
