So I was going through my 15-year-old’s phone last night (with their knowledge, we have an open phone policy at home) and I came across the phrase “sneaky link” in a few of their messages. At first I thought it was some kind of website link or maybe a meme reference, but the context felt a little off. My kid got a bit nervous when I asked, which made me more curious.
I am not trying to be that parent who freaks out over everything, but I do want to understand what this means before I bring it up again. Is this just harmless slang teens are using today, or could it point to something I need to address more seriously?
If anyone has dealt with this or knows what protecting children online from hidden or risky interactions looks like in practice, I would really appreciate some help here. I want to have an informed conversation with my teen, not an accusatory one. What does sneaky link actually mean in teen texting, and what should I do about it?
