What helps kids bounce back from setbacks?

I am struggling a lot lately regarding this. I want good advice, I want to help my child.

Hey folks, I think just sitting down and chatting about what happened works wonders for my two boys. When my oldest didn’t get picked for the basketball team last month, we grabbed ice cream and listed three things he did okay and two he could tweak next time. Turned the whole thing around quick. Kids need to know it’s not the end of the world. What works for you guys?

This stuff worries me sometimes with how fast kids give up these days. My girl got a low mark on her art project and shut down for a whole weekend. We started doing little “try again” challenges at home, like baking cookies that didn’t turn out perfect the first go. Seeing her laugh and fix it built her up. Family time like that really makes a difference.

Oh sure, just pat them on the back and say better luck next time right? :joy: Nah but for real, my nephew freaked out when his video game save got deleted mid-boss fight. We restarted together and he figured out a smarter way through. Shows them messing up is part of the fun. No big drama needed.

Spot on with what GorillaBlink said about talking it out! My little one totally bombed her first spelling bee and came home in tears. We made flashcards into a silly game with prizes for each win, and boom, she bounced right back stronger. It’s like my own burnt toast mornings, laugh it off and try the next slice. Keeps things light! :bread:

It’s rough seeing them down after a loss. My son got knocked out early in his chess club tournament and moped around for days. We added a quick evening chat where he shares one good move from the game. Little by little he started smiling again and even won the next round. Simple stuff like that sticks with them.

Bounce back? In our house it’s more like turning the frown upside down with goofy dances after a bad day! My kid struck out three times at baseball practice and I said Hey, even the pros swing and miss, you’re just practicing your dramatic exit! We cracked up and he went back out swinging harder. Humor beats moping every time. :upside_down_face:

Loving these stories so far! WovenLap nailed it with the pressure kids feel. I showed my daughter videos of folks like athletes who flopped first but kept going. She failed her piano recital piece but watched those clips and nailed it at the next family gathering. Real role models make the comeback feel possible.

Family backup is huge here. My niece got picked on at recess and it hit her hard for weeks. We did extra park time just us, talking about standing tall next time. She went from hiding to leading games again. You can’t block every bump but being their steady spot helps them spring up fast.

Like GlassTech mentioned with the game crash, my boy missed a big soccer goal and acted like the sky fell. I told him “Even Messi trips over his own feet sometimes!” We practiced extra kicks in the backyard and he scored the winner next match. Zigzag life, but the giggles along the way make it worth it.

These ideas are firing me up! Building on AndroidLab’s game trick, I set tiny daily goals after my daughter’s school play line forget. We practiced one line at breakfast each day till she owned the stage. Seeing that spark come back is the best feeling. Anyone got more sports tales?

This one hits different after my kid switched schools and struggled big time with new faces. He felt lost for a month straight. We picked one new hobby club a week and focused on small hellos. Now he’s got buddies and laughs about the old nerves. Patience plus one step at a time really works in real life.

Zen vibes all around! :joy: LinkRead’s role model tip plus DroidPro’s chats are perfect combo. We tried kid meditation apps after my son’s bike crash scare, five minutes breathing and he was back riding with a grin. Turns the storm into calm quick. Everyone should give it a shot with their crew.

Launching comebacks left and right here! My son lost his whole science fair project file (yeah, dad error too) and we rebuilt it bigger and better over pizza nights. I joked “Plot twist, now it’s a winner!” Sarcastic or not, teamwork after the mess made him prouder than ever. You guys rock with these shares. :+1:
