Can I recover deleted WhatsApp messages?

Is there any way by which I can recover the deleted messages? I also want to know how to see their deleted messages as well.

Yes, there are several ways to recover deleted WhatsApp messages.

The easiest way is to use WhatsApp’s built-in backup feature.

If you have automatic backups enabled, you can uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp, and then restore the most recent backup during the setup process.

However, keep in mind that only messages up to the point of the backup will be restored.

On Android, backups are stored in Google Drive, and on iOS, in iCloud.

It is always better to check your backup settings first to see when the last backup was made!

If you are using an Android device, there is another option!

WhatsApp stores local backup files on your phone’s internal storage.

Go to the “WhatsApp” folder > “Databases”. There you will find files named “msgstore.db.crypt12” followed by a date.

You can rename the old backup file to replace the current one and then reinstall WhatsApp.

This way, you can restore messages from specific dates. However, be careful: restoring an old backup will erase all messages received after that date.

To view someone else’s deleted messages, you need a monitoring application like Xnspy, which must first be installed on their device.

It captures messages in real time, so even if the person deletes something during a chat, you can still see the message in the Xnspy dashboard.

Of course, installation requires access to the person’s phone and should only be used in situations where you have the legal right to do so (e.g., monitoring children or employees with their consent).

Unfortunately, once you delete a message, there’s no official way to recover it, and it’s also removed from the recipient’s chat (deleted for everyone).

WhatsApp doesn’t permanently store messages on its servers because of the end-to-end encryption.

The best solution is prevention: You can enable automatic daily backups. So, you never lose more than 24 hours of your chat history. Most of us learned this lesson the hard way!

There are third-party recovery apps out there like Dr.Fone, Tenorshare, or DiskDigger.

They claim to recover deleted WhatsApp messages by scanning your phone’s storage.

Though some people got success with it, unless or until the data has not been overwritten.

Some people have success with these, especially if the data hasn’t been overwritten yet.

However, results vary widely, and many require rooting (Android) or jailbreaking (iPhone), which can void warranties and create security risks. Use at your own discretion!

If you want to monitor someone else’s WhatsApp activity (such as your child’s or an employee’s, with their consent).

Xnspy works in the background and logs all messages before they are deleted. Designed for parental control and employee monitoring, the app records chats, media, and call logs, storing everything remotely.

So, deleting messages on the target device is irrelevant. However, please ensure that monitoring the device is legally permissible in your country.

Believe me, a proactive approach is underrated. Export important chats regularly.y

Tap on chat > More > Export chat, enable cloud backups, and screenshot crucial information.

I only realized this after I lost an entire chat history with travel details – but it will never happen again!

WhatsApp’s architecture prioritizes data protection over recovery, which is good for security, but difficult if you accidentally delete something important.

The notification history can help you sometimes to catch deleted messages (only if you’ve seen the notification) - Mostly, they’re unreliable.

For comprehensive monitoring where you need to see everything, including deleted messages, solutions like Xnspy are more comprehensive because they log conversations at the source before any deletions occur.

This is commonly used by parents monitoring children’s phones or company devices that are being tracked by businesses.
