Okay so let me tell you something, I am kind of at my wits end here. We are on a T-Mobile family plan and I have been using FamilyMode to keep an eye on my kid, who is ten and just got their first phone. On paper it sounds great, screen time limits, content filters, location, the whole package. In reality though it has been a headache. The app lags, the location pin jumps around like it thinks my kid teleports across town, and half the time the content filter either blocks nothing or blocks their homework sites. I am also paying extra every month on top of the plan for it, which stings when it works this poorly.
What I really care about is pretty simple when I list it out. First, screen time, I want real limits that actually stick and not something my kid can wiggle out of. Second, blocking inappropriate stuff before they stumble into it. Third, seeing which apps they are actually spending hours in. And fourth, knowing where they are without it draining their battery or lying to me. Bonus points if it works well on their specific device and does not cost me an arm and a leg.
I have been reading around and there are a ton of options but honestly the reviews all sound like ads and I cannot tell what is real anymore. So I am turning to you all. What are some good T-Mobile FamilyMode alternatives that actually deliver? I am open to third party apps, built in phone tools, or even weirder setups if they work. I care about privacy too, both mine and my kids, so I do not want something that ships their data off to who knows where. Budget is flexible but I am not trying to spend fifty bucks a month.
Lay it on me, what are you all using and what should I stay far away from? Real experiences over marketing fluff would be amazing. I want to hear the third party apps you trust and any built in phone tools that punch above their weight, plus whatever oddball setups worked for you. If a tool flaked out the way FamilyMode did on me, say so too, because knowing what to avoid saves a wasted month. Thanks in advance folks.
